Content is where Real Money will be made: Bill Gates
Content has been the latest attraction of the online companies. We may see most of the online companies now have a blog of their own to convert users. US luxury and lifestyle brand ‘The Line’ generated 640% increase in its revenue generated through last-click, in just 3 months through its own content hub. Another brand ‘Reiss’ (UK based), was able to increase average order value by 36% with the help of its blog which became a ‘must read’ for customers before making a purchase decision. The scope of content is no more limited to blogs, and media. Online companies are increasing their content marketing budgets for 2015. Content building as a startup idea had also been shared in my article “Five Startup Ideas that can be done with a job.“ (Please subscribe to get a free copy).Bill Gates published an article ‘Content is King’ in 1996 “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting.”
Adding blogging to the business can really have drastic benefits. Here are 4 most important ways in which content helps the business:
SEO ranking of the site:
Maintaining the blog means adding content to your website on a regular basis, which in turn implies that your site is active. Google values the active site and thus your website link and pages tend to appear up in the search results. What does that mean? That simply means the probability of your site link getting clicked is high and thus this will give your MORE TRAFFIC.
Establishing your site as an authority:
Blog should always be closely related to your business and must try to solve customer’s queries and problems. Write good content. Don’t forget that users are coming to your website for some key questions in mind they should not go empty hand. By the end of spending a couple or more minutes they must have something to implement, something they value. Once you garner customers trust by becoming one stop solution to their queries you can easily expect your TRAFFIC getting converted into SALES- The Macro Conversion!
Blogging has Long Term Benefit:
Even though you are enjoying your life the most lazy way, somewhere sometime a blog posted by you is still being searched by people and attracting customers. Isn’t it cool!
Blog can be your announcement platform:
If you have been successful enough to attract users attention, then a lot can be done through blog- inviting views on new product, testing new product, new campaign, making public announcements regarding any new initiative or development in the companies.
Now that if you own a blog or have made up your mind to quickly have one, just one piece of advice from me is that “Content is the king” and these three magical words are the key to success. You cannot get away with a substandard quality of the posts.
Though content is the King but remember King doesn’t fight the battle. Your job is not over with good content. Just as it is imperative to have a king, similarly, good content is the primary thing for blogging but other adds on like promotion etc are equally important. Let us explore what else need to be fixed apart from quality of writings:
Even an ordinary content might get hit with all other strategies like an attractive and curious headline, loud promotion on social sites etc. If you don’t want your content to get lost match your writing with an equally attractive headline.
Longer shelf life:
Write articles, which do not get outdated too soon. Though it is a fast changing world and information is becoming obsolete as soon as it is getting published, but still there is scope for articles with a longer shelf life like future predictions of the industry, analysing buying behaviour of the customer in that segment, etc
Publishing on different sites/blogs:
Just writing a blog will not help unless it reaches out your target customers. Social media is one way of promoting. The other and the much more effective way of reaching the right audience is -other blogs in the same sector. Blogs do allow publishing content on their website provided the content is good, and a link back to your site can actually increase traffic (that too the targeted one) to your site.
Keep it simple silly!
Most of the startups that are coming up are offering convenience. Blog’s consumers are no different. They want quick information. Comprehend all info in more consumable form- info graphics or video. It is good if a user spends time on your article, as it increases the probability of selling affiliate products, and more money through Ad-sense, but a quick graph or infographic enables user to imbibe all information in a jiffy. Offer them convenience and they will return back when they have time to read full.
