List of Options for Commuting after Odd-Even Rule
The recent announcement by Delhi government regarding the odd and even rule (Check out 5 things you may not know about odd-even rule) has given golden opportunity to the aggregator startups. According to the odd-even car rule, vehicles with license plate ending with odd and even numbers will be allowed to ply on roads on alternative days. Odd car numbers are allowed for Monday, Wednesday and Friday while even number cars on all other days, Sundays does not have any such restriction. The scheme will be implemented from January 1, 2016, initially for 15 days, and only after this pilot study, the scheme would be extended if found beneficial.In this article I have tried to jot down the list of options for commuting after odd-even rule in Delhi.
The above rule though temporary, has opened up a plethora of opportunities for the startups present in this sector. Apart from that, government is planning to increase the capacity of all the public transport including bus, auto and metro. People have already started finding solutions to tackle their problem in commutation on those days of the week when you car is not allowed on the roads. Many are discussing the possibilities of car-pooling with colleagues travelling in the same direction while some have started exploring options with public transport and some are even thinking of buying another car to tackle the problem of pollution, which is very strange.
Here is a bunch of startups that are quickly expanding and rolling out new plans to exploit the opportunity. No doubt that the new age entrepreneurs are busy finding pain points of customers and trying solving them with the help of technology. The following solutions put forward by various startups are a win-win situation for the government, users and startups till the time there is no other alternative solution to rein in the increasing pollution in the city.
Apart from the public transport you can always book a private taxi from any of the cab aggregator’s website. One interesting couple of apps for this service is Niki and Loco cabs. They are a sort of aggregators of cab aggregator and helps you fetch the best deal from the various aggregators. So, they take the burden of hunting deals on 10 different apps off your shoulders and claims to give to cheapest and fastest option.
Since it would not be affordable for everybody to hail private taxi 15 days a moth there are some economical solutions as well. Lets explore!
List of Options for commuting after Odd-Even Rule in Delhi
Uber is planning to launch carpool as the new service in Delhi. Through their app users would be able to pool in their private cars after getting registered on the platform. It is reported that the company will put in place the checks for the security of the driver and the passenger. This way the company targets 28 lakh private car owners in Delhi.
Ridely is one such company, which is making ride sharing easy. Ridely is a smart carpooling & ride-sharing application that let’s you share rides with verified people. The process of creating a ride is easy and smooth. Ridely enables users to search and locate rides on an interactive map based interface. Users can check their ride offeror’s profile, cost, pickup and drop locations etc. before requesting for the ride. It allows sharing of cars and two-wheelers on its platform owned by people and is planning to provide sharing of hired Cabs/Autos. Ride sharing is real time with RIDELY, making it the most preferred option to commute daily, anywhere, anytime.
PoolMyRide– If you have to go from say Patel Nagar to Okhla, just explore in this platform you may surely find someone going in the same direction who would charge you a minimal amount of say Rs. 100/- for letting you ride with them. PoolMyRide integrates the users Facebook Profile with its platform so that you can authenticate the person by checking his facebook profile.
Lets Drive along-Letsdrivealong is also a platform that enables you to make your social profile along with your car details and driving info and find people near you commuting through the same route.
Ibibo Ryde: Search for people travelling from your location to your destination and you may easily get a dozen of people offering a seat as low as Rs. 12/20. You can also make up whatever little money you had spent taking a lift by reviewing your co-passenger.
Meru is planning for pool cab option to be launched before the D day i.e. January 15, 2016, the day when trial of even-odd car rule of Delhi Government. This app will identify riders in the vicinity of 2-3 km radius going in the same direction. Meru is planning to offer up to 35% discount on their usual fare for co-sharing passengers.
Easycab– The taxi division of Carzonrent company will promote the sharing of vehicles.
Uber already have this feature of sharing commercial vehicle with the name of UberPool in Banglore. Uber Pool is also expected to be launched in Delhi, along with other cities.
Ola has its Taxi sharing app Ola share in beta testing phase in Bengaluru and could be rolled out in NCR as well, reports ET.
3– Auto Aggregator
Government’s PoochO has recently announced the launch of its Auto and Taxi aggregation app called PoochO. Just download this app and turn on the GPS of the device, this app would enable you to find GPS enabled autos and taxis near your location. The number of auto rickshaws and taxis estimated are 80,000 and 30, 000 respectively and 75% of them are GPS enabled.
Ola – Ola also provides an option to book an auto in your vicinity. With an additional charge of Rs.10 you may get the auto at your doorstep. Be ready with the cash in your hand as Ola does not have the provision to use Ola money for making auto rickshaw payments.
Jugnoo is again an auto aggregator app where you may book your auto, and the auto will reach your place just like Taxis. The company claims that it provides up to 32% cheaper solution than a regular auto ride.
Uber– has recently suspended its auto hailing service app. “We are temporarily removing this product to solve specific problems that need to be resolved to help it scale”,the company said in an official statement.
Shuttl is for people who cannot afford cab rates and do not want the hassles of public buses. Startups like Shuttl have a midway solution of mobile-based mini buses plying between various routes.
Ola has recently launched shuttle services in Noida and Gurgaon, and has introduced in Delhi as well.
If one still wants to have a personal vehicle even on the day of the week when their cars are not allowed then it might be little expensive, but there is an option.
Carzonrent The car rental company says it will deliver vehicles from its self-drive Myles-Cars unit (having fleet of 1,200) to the doorstep of the users.
Zoomcar is another company in the same sector with a fleet of 2,100 cars in 6 locations.
