I am still in planning phase for my software solution services startup and no customer base as of now. Do I really need to secure my startup company name, like get it trademarked or something? Also, can I do it on my own online saving the cost of getting it done via legal CA / company.

Yes you should definitely go for trademark registration once you have validated your product and going to pursue your entrepreneruship dream with this product.

You should think of a uncommon unique name and get it trademarked.

Trademark reg of a brand name means nothing but brand name registration. It means nobody can use your brandname to sell their products or services. Whatever effort you are making in your startup is to develop a brand and I am sure you don’t want to lose it to someone else.

yes you can do efilling by yourself. You have to pay the registration fees online.

Hope it answered your query.

The registration of trademark or copyright is recommended but not obligatory. So, you could decide not to trademark or copyright your company’s name, however it is advisable to apply for trademarks. Because registering your trademark means that you have the exclusive right to use the trademark in relation to the goods and services for which the mark is registered. For example, if your company name is registered as trademark and If others use it in relation to the same or similar goods or services without your consent, they may be liable for infringement of your mark and you may take legal action. If you do not register your mark, it is harder to prove that you are the ‘owner’ of the mark and as such your protection is limited. Grofers (the online grocery store have been sued by Groffr.
